DDRA Treasurer’s report March 2021
Like most other organisations we have had a most extraordinary 12 months due to the effects of COVID and the measures put in place to reduce its spread.
Normally we produce and deliver 3 newsletters each year but in 2020 this was reduced to one issue which came out in February, before the pandemic hit the UK. This has reduced our printing costs but has also reduced our income from the advertisers who feature in the newsletters.
Fortunately this has been offset to some extent by the increased revenue from annual subscription following the raising of the subscription rate to £4 per person per year as agreed at our 2019 AGM. Please could everyone who pays their DDRA subscription by Standing Order check that it has been changed to reflect the new amount - £4 per person per year? A few have still not been amended.
Overall, our income from all sources fell slightly in 2020 but our expenditure went down further, giving us a surplus of £1,439 in the year.
Early in 2020 we granted £200 towards a group of Arden students who were planning to go out to Schittsdrift School, a primary school in KwaZulu-Natal. The school is in a poor area and it was requested and we agreed that although the trip could not proceed due to the global pandemic, in these very unusual circumstances our money should be sent to the school to be used for essentials such as food parcels and educational equipment.
Another casualty of the pandemic was an international scouting jamboree for which we had previously awarded a grant; this money was returned to us.
Our local Fast Responders were struggling financially during 2020 due to the drop in fundraising opportunities because of the pandemic and we gave them £500 towards their ongoing costs as we very much appreciate their support for all in our community.
We continue to hold £100 on behalf of Dorridge Streetwatch.
In 2020 a project was begun to extend the path in Bentley Heath park to give it a full circuit. In 2020 we received £6,135 towards this project from various sources. I am pleased be able to report that in early 2021 we have received the rest of the funding required and work will soon begin on the path, which is expected to be completed by the end of April 2021. We thank those people locally - individuals and businesses - who have contributed towards this. The path extension will significantly improve the park as a place to walk and exercise for all of us.
We are continuing to pursue a fraud case dating back to 2016-2017. In January 2020 we heard from the police that the Crown Prosecution Service was not going to prosecute in this case, but we decided to take the matter to the Small Claims Court as we are determined to get the money (£2,700) back for DDRA if at all possible. This has cost implications but those costs are added to the amount sought. These costs came to £185.
The 2020 accounts have been examined for us by Tim Moores and we thank him for his help with this.
