We have a local litter problem

Make B93 LITTER FREE

------

SMBC have set up 8 Litter Picking Hubs stocked with all the equipment needed for a successful community litter pick; this includes high visibility vests, litter pickers and Love Solihull green waste bags. Anyone is welcome to come along and borrow the equipment as long as they complete the signing out form, agree to the guidelines & risk assessment which is supplied with the equipment.
Our nearest hub is at Knowle Library.

Up to two full green waste bags can be left at a convenient council litter bin ready for collection by the bin men. More than two bags should be notified to the council for a separate collection.

a personal story

We have a local litter problem!

In February 2021 the B93 Litteracy Society was started by local homeowner Emma Pitt, in response to the rubbish she saw on her walks.

Making B93 Litter Free – A personal account from Emma Pitt (abridged).
During this last lockdown we have continued to enjoy our family time out walking discovering areas of Dorridge and Knowle that we had never ventured into before.
It was whilst we were out walking in February that I decided to make our area look cleaner, by tackling the increasing prevalence of rubbish that seemed to be accumulating.
Armed with a rubbish bag and litter pickers, my daughter and I started picking up litter near to our home and found it very therapeutic. Following our successful pick of two rubbish bags, I shared a photo of my daughter to social media, and we were overwhelmed by the kind response we got from the local community.
On the back of this gratitude, I have set up a local group – “The B93 Litteracy Society”   to highlight the areas of B93 that need picking, as well as those areas that we have improved by picking. We have litter pickers available to borrow.
Perhaps you’d like to join us? We have over 100 members and a group on Facebook.
Let’s make a positive impact on our community
